About Amicus Reporting Group

You‘ve Got a Friend in Us

The word Amicus literally means “friend” — and we take our name seriously. In this busy and detail-driven industry, we strive to be knowledgeable, professional, and dependable, but also friendly and easy to deal with. We know the importance of taking care of the details; details are our business. At Amicus, we go a step further by providing service to our clients with a wholehearted, caring approach. Professionalism can be delivered with care.

Amicus has been bringing passion and expertise to our work for, well, a long time. In fact, we are celebrating our 30th anniversary this year, making us the oldest private court reporting firm in Calgary! Originally founded in 1987 by two court reporters, Amicus has been under the ownership of Brenda Ball, a veteran with extensive experience in the industry, since 2010. Amicus has steadily grown to a sizable, respected team of industry professionals that now serves clients across Calgary, Alberta, and North America. We are able to provide a variety of professional services and are ready to help meet your needs.

Technology Has Always Been Our Difference

Looking to the future, we’ve fully embraced technology and leverage it wherever possible to gain efficiencies and increase capabilities for our clients and for us. Amicus is a member of the Society for the Technological Advancement of Reporting (STAR) and DepoSpan, both agencies that promote the use of emerging technologies in the court reporting industry. Internet-based tools also open opportunities, meaning today we can conduct questionings and depositions with parties in different offices and time zones, or aid the hard-of-hearing with a realtime display to facilitate better communication. Court reporting will always necessitate a human touch, and by embracing technology, we continue to provide our clients with forward-thinking solutions.

Not only do we aim to improve our technological capabilities, Amicus also places high importance on continuing education for our team. We are proud that our reporters are members of the Alberta Shorthand Reporters Association (ASRA) which promotes professional development and continuing education.

Amicus in the Community

It brings us great pleasure to be able to give back to the community. Amicus donates with purpose and we believe in the causes we support.

Though we always appreciate a good cookie, in lieu of bringing snacks to your appointment, Amicus has chosen to be a sponsor of Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids. Brown Bagging works in partnership with the Calgary Board of Education and the Calgary Separate School District to provide over 4,000 nutritious lunches every year to kids in Calgary who would otherwise go without.

Supporting court reporters of the future, Amicus provides two scholarships yearly to the NAIT Captioning and Court Reporting Program. We are also members of National Court Reporters Foundation (NCRF), which raises funds throughout the year for programs and scholarships related to the court reporting community, education programs, and oral histories for war veterans.

We are also pleased to be a sponsor of the Student Legal Assistance (SLA) Annual Golf Tournament. Student Legal Assistance (SLA) is an association of law students at the University of Calgary and has been in operation since 1979, providing free legal assistance and representation to U of C student and members of the public unable to afford legal services.

In addition, Amicus donates to Red Cross and has made contributions to Calgary Herald Christmas Fund.
